about
This is a song about fear. I was minding my niece a lot during lockdown and she is really scared of spiders.
I got super interested in fears, their origins, the many ways they can manifest and how they can 'hold you prisoner'. As you get older your fears evolve, sometimes your spiders grow legs. Sometimes the fear of death underpins everything, but yeah she's four so I didn't get into that.
Anyway the song, as I said, is about fears and how we try and keep them quiet, from others, from ourselves and especially from children.
It's also inspired by these huge sculptures that were made by Louise Bourgeois, who i got obsessed with recently. I'm trying to write real stuff that relates to the world that we live in right now so that's where this is coming from.
It was written and recorded during lockdown. I didn't have the budget for a choir so I recorded each vocal part individually in my front room in Palmerstown. There's over 100 vocal tracks in there, would you believe. I'm sure Marcin Ciszczon would because he had to mix them all. I was so lucky to work with my producer Chris Bubenzer again, one of my favourite people in the world. We worked on this over Zoom. Not sure if you've heard of it. My friend Sara @_lovac13 designed the visuals and a vid that is soon to come. Yeah I hope you enjoy this. It's nice to make things. Lots more to come, just getting warmed up. X
My friend @adamczykmate provided some lovely violin for it and my new friend @claresandsmusic also did some violin, cello and electric violin.
Okay, that's everything, goodbye.
lyrics
When I wrap my head around,
Why you wanna bring me down,
It all becomes one,
It all becomes undone.
Mother Mary, Jesus Christ,
How am I gonna sleep tonight?
It all becomes one,
It all becomes undone.
I'm not in my head,
I'm not in my body.
I got frightened, I got tired.
Giant Spiders live outside.
It all becomes one,
It all becomes undone.
I'm not in my head,
I'm not in my body.
I'm awful and lonely.
I'm desperate.
Terror, Destruction, Heartache.
You watch us drag their bodies,
From the safe house,
where you left them.
Keep quiet,
Keep quiet.
Don't wake the children.
Keep Quiet.
